Adults Karate

Funakoshi Karate focuses on developing fitness, physical mastery, mental control,
intellectual enrichment and self-defence capabilities. The underlying philosophy is built
on the karate maxims defined by the late Japanese Karate Master, Gichin Funakoshi:
CHARACTER, EFFORT, ETIQUETTE, SINCERITY and SELF-CONTROL.

Karate is an exciting and multifaceted art, being a blend of physical and mental
elements. It is fun, yet challenging, capable of improving physical fitness and stamina.

Karate can be practised at any age, and does NOT, contrary to popular belief, require
exceptional flexibility or natural talent. In karate, every individual develops at his or her
own pace.

At Funakoshi Karate, we are an extended family, and those people that want a positive,
healthy life style for themselves and their families can find it here.
"Karate is excellent for fitness and self-
defense. It teaches me what my body is
capable of and what I need to work on
to improve." - Karina Allan, Farmer
"I started karate as an activity to do
with my son and now I'm not sure who
is more addicted. The fun, fitness,
discipline and etiquette all contribute
to the challenge and enjoyment. It's
much more than just a sport." - Peter
Shipp, Medical Scientist
